Motorcycle and car collide in Hagerstown’s East End

HAGERSTOWN, Maryland – One person was transported from a motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon in the East End of Hagerstown, according to fire department officials.

Hagerstown Fire Department Captain Joey Chojnacki said that one patient was transported to Meritus Medical Center by Community Rescue Service ambulance following the accident that occurred in front of 1760 Dual Highway.

Chojnacki said that the patient was classified as a Priority 1, Category Charlie under the MIEMSS trauma decision tree- a model that allows EMS providers to prioritize trauma patients and gives receiving facilities information on severity of injuries.

“A motorcycle was in the merge lane and a passenger car was in the slow lane. The passenger car turned its (turn signal) on and slowed down…,” a Hagerstown Police Department spokesman said. “The (driver of the) motorcycle looked back to merge behind the passenger car and didn’t realize it slowed down until he looked forward and struck the rear of the vehicle.”

The condition of the patient is not known at this time.

Hagerstown Fire Department, Community Rescue Service, Funkstown Volunteer Fire Department and Hagerstown Police Department responded to the crash.
