WILLIAMSPORT, Maryland – Early Saturday morning, multiple Washington County agencies were dispatched to the area of northbound I-81 at exit 1 for a reported vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer, a Washington County Division of Emergency Service Dispatcher confirmed.
“The incident started at 12:03 a.m. with an approximately 50 minute extrication (time),” the dispatcher said.
“The tractor trailer was traveling northbound, left the roadway through the guardrail and across the northbound entrance ramp,” Williamsport Fire and EMS Deputy Chief Donnie Bingaman said. “The tractor trailer overturned trapping the driver in the driver seat.”
Maryland State Police Aviation was requested and transported the patient, a priority 1, category alpha under the Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services Systems Trauma Decision Tree, to University of Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore.
Units from Williamsport Fire and EMS, Washington County Division of Emergency Services, Funkstown Volunteer Fire Department and Washington County Division of Special Operations responded to the call, according to the dispatcher.
Bingaman said that no other vehicles were involved in the crash. The truck was carrying flowers and other plants. Units remained on the scene for approximately two and a half hours.
Details on the patient condition were not immediately known.
